This course is for Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Speech and Language Therapists and follows on from the SI Module 1 course. Therefore participants must have attended SI 1 (or similar if trained abroad). As the SI Network has recently introduced SI 1 module for Adults - Mental Health and Learning Disabilities, this will now be reflected in the course and therapists who have attended either SI 1 Paeds, or SI 1 Diverse Populations can attend this course. This course aims to develop the participants’ skills in evaluation and clinical reasoning based on a sensory integration framework. It builds on the theory of Sensory Integration from the SI 1 Theory and Intervention course to enable participants to use this knowledge in the evaluation and clinical reasoning process in the context of their specific client group. A comprehensive evaluation requires a broad spectrum of information obtained through clinical observation, questionnaires, interviews, and standardised assessment. Interpretation of this information is promoted through analysis and clinical reasoning.
The learning outcomes for this course are for the student to be able to:
1. Recognise the role of clinical observation in the overall evaluation and intervention process in sensory integration
2. Understand the process of evaluation and clinical reasoning in sensory integration
3. Draw on sensory integration theory, neuroscience and clinical reasoning in order to apply these skills in practice
4. Critically analyse the application of sensory integration evaluation procedures with their specific client group
It has been found that this course generally is useful to participants, in that it has given them the confidence to move the SI theory which they have previously learnt into their practice. Much of the learning during the residential week is through discussion, video analysis and workshops and recognises the wealth of experience and different learning styles that therapists bring when attending a course at this level
Following this course participants may choose to attend SI Module 3 - SIPT and/or SI Module 4 - Advanced Treatment courses.
As we are an educational body, all those attending our courses must be active members of the Network. Please ensure that you are registered with us and that your membership fees of £25 [or €35] are paid before you apply to attend a course.
