This includes an awareness of the assessment and treatment of children/adults with dysfunction in sensory integration. Booklets, certificates and refreshments are included in the fee.
SI Module 1 (Paediatrics) Sensory Integration 1 - Theory and Intervention [P]

As the SI Network has recently introduced SI 1 module for Adults - Mental Health and Learning Disabilities, this will now be reflected in the course and therapists who have attended either SI 1 Paeds, or SI 1 Diverse Populations can attend this course.

SI Module 3 (SIPT) Sensory Integration 3 - Administration and Interpretation of the Sensory Integration & Praxis Test
This Module is held once a year and consists of two lecture blocks. Usually the first block is in September when the administration of the course is the focus of the 5 days, and the second is in March when the interpretation of the test is the focus. However this is confirmed to all participants prior to commencing the course.

This course is accredited by Cardiff University with 20 M level credits on completion of one assignment of 3,500 words. Students will also be examined on their ability to administer the SIPT.

It is anticipated that there will be 200 hours of study, of which 60 will be contact hours and 140 will be self-directed study.

Cost of course: £1,000 [2009]

SI Module 4 - (Advanced Treatment) Sensory Integration 4

Have you attended Module 1 (SI - Theory and Intervention), and Module 2 (Advanced Clinical Reasoning and Analysis)?

Do you use SI in your area of practice, but feel you would like to advance your practice and start measuring the outcome of your treatment?

Are you interested in working towards being a clinical specialist and gaining Master’s level credits?

If you answered yes to these questions, then Module 4 (SI – Advanced Treatment) might be the course for you. You do not have to have completed Module 3 [SI 3 - SIPT] before attending this course!

Cost of course £1000 [2009] Watch this space for the next available course as the July 2009 course is already fully booked!

Understanding Sensory Processing Disorders Understanding Sensory Processing Disorders
A 3-day training course on how sensory processing disorders affect:

Attention - Learning - Activities of Daily Living

Suitable for Teachers Parents Carers Health and Social Support Workers and Therapists.

The aims of the course are

1. to introduce an understanding of sensory processing

2. to discuss strategies that therapists trained in sensory integration may address when working with individuals with sensory processing difficulties, such as poor attention and focus, coordination difficulties and challenging behaviours.

3. to address the needs of those who are supporting the child or young adult with these difficulties, working alongside a suitably qualified therapist.

Alert Programme How Does Your Engine Run? The Alert Program for Self-Regulation
"How Does Your Engine Run?"

This course will run in two venues in March 2010, in Dublin and in Tring, Herts.

"If your body is like a car engine, sometimes it runs on high, sometimes it runs on low, and sometimes it runs just right." When therapists, teachers, or parents use these simple words to begin the Alert Program, they enter an exciting adventure with children.

The journey unfolds easily with the program’s clearly defined steps for teaching self-regulation awareness. The Alert Program assists children who have learning disabilities and attention problems (as well as typical children) to understand the basic theory of sensory integration related to arousal states. Through the program, children learn a repertoire of strategies that enhance their abilities to learn, interact with others, and work or play. Children not only learn to monitor their level of alertness, but improve in self-esteem and self-confidence. If children are intellectually challenged or developmentally younger than the age of eight, the program’s concepts can be utilized by parents or staff to facilitate optimal functioning. Join us in this practical workshop and learn specific methods that can be incorporated easily into therapeutic and educational programs.

Integrating NDT and Sensory Integration NDT and SI
This three day workshop will help expand treatment options to obtain effective functional results through a holistic, integrated approach to Bobath Neurodevelopmental Therapy and Sensory Integration treatment approach. It is open to Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists only. Previous experience in NDT/Bobath and/or Sensory Integration is preferred and will be an advantage.
ASD - SI and Behaviour - Problem Identification and Intervention Autism, Spectrum Disorders - Sensory Integration and Behavior - Problem Identification and Intervention
This four day course is open to therapists, teachers, caregivers and parents of children and adolescents who are affected by autistic spectrum disorders. It will be led by Carolyn Murray-Slutsky, OTR and Betty Paris, PT. The confusing and challenging behaviours that children with Pervasive Developmental Disorders and Autistic Spectrum Disorders often demonstrate cause parents, teachers and therapists to ask the question: Is it sensory or is it behavior?

ASD - Is it Sensory or Behavior? - Problem Identification in Adult and Elderly Population Sensory Integration and Behavior - Problem Identification in Adult and Elderly Population
With Carolyn Murray-Slutsky, OTR and Betty Paris, PT. Ms. Paris and Ms. Murray-Slutsky together have formed STAR Services, a company dedicated to providing high quality educational and consultative services. They lecture and present workshops throughout the United States and Europe. They authored the books “Exploring the Spectrum of Autism and PDD- Intervention Strategies”; “Is it Sensory or is it Behavior? - Intervention Strategies” was published in 2004 and “Developing Visual Motor Integration”, 2008.

The speakers skillfully use a layering system to guide participants to a deep understanding of the complexities of autism spectrum disorder and pervasive developmental disorders in the adolescent, adult and elderly populations. The inter-relationships between aging, sensory integrative, communication, and behavioral problems seen in these individuals will be explored.

Sensory modulation, tactile discrimination and motor planning will be discussed in-depth.

Videos and case presentations will be used to help participants identify and prioritize the underlying and primary problem and identify intervention strategies for a variety of settings.

Through a variety of learning activities, participants will analyze why people behave the way they do, sort out sensory based problems from other causes, and design intervention strategies to improve the functional performance needed for employment, occupation, and behavioral management in the adolescent and adult with ASD.
