Assessing & Treating Regulatory, Emotional, & Sensory Deficits Georgia DeGangi, Ph.D. OTR, Clinical Developmental Psychologist
This two-day workshop is designed for professionals working in early intervention and mental health settings who are interested in enhancing their knowledge of and clinical skills in assessment and treatment of self-regulation, attention, multisensory, and interaction problems in children ages birth through school-age years. These professionals include occupational therapists and physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, paediatricians, nurses, and special educators.

This workshop will run in two venues this Autumm. It will take place in Cork, Ireland on 30th September and 1st October and in Cardiff, Wales on 4th and 5th October.

As we are an educational body, all those attending our courses must be active members of the Network. Please ensure that you are registered with us and that your annual membership fee of £25 [or €35] is paid before you apply to attend a course.

If you are applying to Cardiff University for accreditation, you must complete the form and return it with your SI Network application form and course fees, to the SI Network postal address.
This form must be completed prior to the course, and once you have been registered by them, you will receive the course handbook and student number from Cardiff University.

Introductory Day [Intro Day]
An Introductory Day aims to provide therapists and others interested in finding out more about Sensory Integration, with an overview of the basic concepts underpinning the theory and principles of Sensory Integration. This includes an awareness of the assessment and treatment of children/adults with dysfunction in sensory integration. Booklets, certificates and refreshments are included in the fee.
Annual Conference Annual Conference of the SI Network UK and Ireland Ltd

The date for the Annual Conference of the SI Network has been set for 18th September 2010.

The venue will be Haresfoot School, Chesham Road, Hertfordshire, Herts HP4 2SZ, England. This year we are delighted to welcome Prof Roseann C. Schaaf, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA Vice Chairman and Associate Professor, Thomas Jefferson University. She is leading pioneering research in autism intervention and the links between sensory processing, function and parasympathetic functioning.

The cost is £75 or €90 which includes a light lunch.

SI Module 1 Sensory Integration 1 - Theory and Intervention
This Module is held at least twice a year and is accredited by Cardiff University with 10 M level credits on completion of one assignment of 2,500 words. It is anticipated that there will be 100 hours of study, of which 35 will be contact hours and 65 will be self-directed study. Participant only pathway - 5 days of lectures.

SI Module 1 (Adults Mental Health and Learning Disabilities) Sensory Integration 1 - Theory and Intervention [A]
This Module is accredited by Cardiff University with 10 M level credits on completion of one assignment of 2,500 words. It is anticipated that there will be 100 hours of study, of which 35 will be contact hours and 65 will be self-directed study. Participant only pathway - 5 days of lectures.

SI Module 2 - (Advanced Clinical Reasoning and Analysis) Sensory Integration 2
This Module is held at least twice a year and is accredited by Cardiff University with 15 M level credits on completion of one assignment of 3,000 to 3,500 words. It is anticipated that there will be 150 hours of study, of which 35 will be contact hours and 115 will be self-directed study. Participant only pathway - 5 days of lectures.

Course Fee [January 2009] £600 (£500 if participant only - i.e. not registering with Cardiff University) This fee will increase from January 2011 to £700 (£600 if participant only)

As the SI Network has recently introduced SI 1 module for Adults - Mental Health and Learning Disabilities, this will now be reflected in the course and therapists who have attended either SI 1 Paeds, or SI 1 Diverse Populations can attend this course.

SI Module 3 (SIPT) Sensory Integration 3 - Administration and Interpretation of the Sensory Integration & Praxis Test
This Module is held once a year and consists of two lecture blocks. Usually the first block is in September when the administration of the course is the focus of the 5 days, and the second is 4 days in March when the interpretation of the test is the focus. However this is confirmed to all participants prior to commencing the course.

This course is accredited by Cardiff University with 20 M level credits on completion of one assignment of 3,500 words. Students will also be examined on their ability to administer the SIPT.

It is anticipated that there will be 200 hours of study, of which 60 will be contact hours and 140 will be self-directed study.

SI Module 4 - (Advanced Treatment) Sensory Integration 4

Have you attended Module 1 (SI - Theory and Intervention), and Module 2 (Advanced Clinical Reasoning and Analysis)?


Do you use SI in your area of practice, but feel you would like to advance your practice and start measuring the outcome of your treatment?

Are you interested in working towards being a clinical specialist and gaining Master’s level credits?

If you answered yes to these questions, then Module 4 (SI – Advanced Treatment) might be the course for you. You do not have to have completed Module 3 [SI 3 - SIPT] before attending this course!

Suitable for Teachers Parents Carers Health and Social Support Workers and Therapists.

The aims of the course are

1. to introduce an understanding of sensory processing

2. to discuss strategies that therapists trained in sensory integration may address when working with individuals with sensory processing difficulties, such as poor attention and focus, coordination difficulties and challenging behaviours.

3. to address the needs of those who are supporting the child or young adult with these difficulties, working alongside a suitably qualified therapist.
