Dr. Lane holds a BS in Allied Health, Occupational Therapy from The Ohio State University, and a Ph.D. in Anatomy/Neuroscience from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, San Antonio. She has focused her clinical, teaching, and research interests into two areas: 1) infants and at risk for developmental delay and learning disabilities; 2) neuroscience applications to occupational therapy. Research areas have included development and sensory processing in infants born prematurely, and in infants prenatally exposed to substances of abuse. Dr. Lane's recent work has been with the "Let's Play!" Project, on which she served first as PI and then as Research Consultant. This project used a family directed intervention approach, focusing on play and assistive technology, to promote play and playfulness in infants with disabilities. Currently she is in the first year of a two year research project designed to fully investigate the intervention model developed through Let’s Play!. Dr. Lane has published and lectured locally, nationally, and internationally on topics related to her research and areas of interest. In addition to her work at VCU, Dr. Lane has served as Editor-in-Chief for a series of pediatric books published by F.A. Davis. She is also second editor and author/contributor to the 2nd edition of Sensory Integration: Theory and Practice, published May, 2002.
