SIPT Kits may be hired from the SI Network by members taking SI Module 2/3. Kits will be provided free of charge for training during the course. However you will need access to a SIPT Kit following the course to complete your assessment work. If you do not already have access to one, you may hire one from the SI Network for a period at a cost of £150.00 members (£200 non members). SIPT kits will only be delivered to UK and Ireland addresses. Delivery to the Scottish Highlands, Outer Hebrides, Orkney Islands and Channel Islands may take up to an additional 4 days and a surcharge will apply.
The Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests (SIPT) measure the sensory integration processes that underlie learning and behaviour. By showing you how the individual organises and responds to sensory input, SIPT helps pinpoint specific organic problems associated with learning disabilities, emotional disorders, and minimal brain dysfunction.
- Purpose: Offers the most complete and flexible assessment of sensory integration available
- Standardisation Ages / Grade: 4 years to 8 years, 11 months (for use of the SIPT with adolescents and adults please see the note below)
- Administration Time: 10 minutes per test; 2 hours for the entire battery
- Format: 17 subtests requiring children to perform visual, tactile, kinesthetic, and motor tasks
- Norms: Based on a sample of more than 2,000 children
NOTE: The SIPT is increasingly being considered as a suitable assessment for use with adolescents and adults who are able to participate in more formal assessments techniques. The plateauing of results above 8 years 11 months in the standardisation sample indicates developmental maturity of sensory integration. Therefore deviations from the 8 years 11 months score in adolescents and adults may, as in the standardisation population, indicate specific organic problems processing sensory information, associated with learning disabilities, emotional disorders, and minimal brain dysfunction.
Statement compiled by Kath Smith, SI Network Director, 2011, following personal communication with Susanne Smith-Roley and Zoe Mailloux, SIPT Instructors, WPS.
