SI Module 1: Foundations and Neuroscience Classroom Course - A Review

18 Dec 2017 19:29 | Anonymous

I am an occupational therapist who qualified in 1984 and completed an MSc in occupational therapy in 2003. My experience encompasses both the physical and mental services for children since 1988.

When I applied to take part in SI module 1 my goal was to learn more about applying sensory intervention techniques - which I have been investigating - to my clients. I also wanted to bring my qualifications up to date and the SI Network now provides a modular pathway which is validated via Ulster University. The course has helped me to achieve these and to further my learning and understanding of sensory processing issues with the children that I treat.

The module was very mentally stimulating and I enjoyed the process of intensive learning, which I have not done for a while. The standard of the materials, the calibre of the lecturers and the scientific detail made me think again about the ways I assess children and added a new depth to my clinical reasoning. The new knowledge that I gained during the course is combining with my previous experience and training to help shape the way that I will assess children in the future. The course also gave me an appetite for learning, so has encouraged me to carry out the next levels of training.

I would definitely recommend the course to others. It will inspire you and enable you to move your work forwards.
