SI Module 1: Foundations and Neuroscience

This Ulster University-validated postgraduate module is designed to equip participants with the knowledge required to apply current sensory integration theories to their everyday practice. It is available as an online course or classroom based course. Both online and classroom courses will have an online assessment.

Occupational Therapists, Speech & Language Therapists and Physiotherapists. Psychologists registered with HCPC or medical doctors who have GMC registration (or the equivalent) can apply for SI Module 1 only.


Online Course:  This course and assessment will run for a 16 week period. This online module allows participants to be flexible in where, when and how they learn. Participants should commit 50 hours direct online learning and additional self-directed independent learning time to advance their knowledge and prepare for the assignment. Classroom Course: 5 days. The course will run from 9am to 5pm each day. Registration on Monday will commence at 8.45am. The course will finish at 4pm on the Friday.  See below for the assessment information.

Please note that fee must be paid in full 7 days prior to the online course start date unless member instalment plan option is taken.

A light lunch is included. Accommodation is not included.

  • Mobile: Safari in Apple iOS 7 and later, Google Chrome (latest version) in Android OS 4.1 and later
  • Stable WiFi/Broadband access required to run the online course

Online Course: The content has been developed by a team of expert SI practitioners across the range of clinical areas, service users, and lecturers. The team has included experts who have first-hand experience of the challenges of engaging with this fascinating area of study. To that end the resulting online materials and methods of learning are rich and varied. You will be guided through a series of units that have been designed to incrementally develop your understanding and ability to apply SI theory and the underpinning neuroscience.

To further help you be successful on this module, and to also enjoy the process, you will be given your own E-Mentor who will facilitate your journey through the units of the module. You will also be part of an online bespoke community of fellow students, sharing the learning journey together.

Classroom Course: Based on the units of the online course, the content will be delivered by experts in neuroscience and sensory integration theory and practice.

Do I need to provide evidence of competence in English language?

Yes. If English is not your first language, you will need to complete this form when registering for a Modular Pathway course.  If you do not meet the minimum English requirement, you cannot complete this course.
